Victoria's Secret Angels Take Shanghai 2017

It seems like the holiday season doesn’t officially start until the Angels take to the runway in the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  Each year the show gets larger and more spectacular, featuring the hottest music artists perfuming while the supermodels strut down the runway in costumes that somehow seem to out-do those of the previous shows.

This year the Angels traveled to Shanghai, to the enormous excitement of their eastern fans.  In a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show first the brand collaborated with legendary design house Balmain who created punk princess studded jackets with rhinestone and metal embellishments, pieces that were so stunning on their own you almost forgot they were being worn over lingerie on a supermodel.  Talk about a game changer.

Stars Harry Styles, Leslie Odom Jr., Miguel, and Chinese pianist Li Yundi rocked the runway while the models stomped to the beat in true rock-chick fashion.  Every year the VS designers up their game and this year was no exception, with the wings, thigh-high laced boots, exotic jewelry, carnivale costumes and headpieces that can only be described as decadent.

Walking in her last show after a seventeen-year long career with VS, Alessandra Ambrosio took her final turn as an Angel to huge applause and love from her fans, as she moves on to new projects and adventures.  It’s hard to imagine the show without Alessandra, and she will be greatly missed.  The new crop of VS models some appearing in the show for the first time were star-struck walking alongside their idols like Adriana Lima, Jasmine Tookes, Sara Sampaio, Elsa Hosk, and Josephine Skriver. The fantasy bra honor went to Brazilian beauty Lais Ribero, to gasps of admiration from the audience.

In one of the most heart-warming moments of the show Ming Xi proudly walking in front of her family and hometown stumbled on the runway, and like a true supermodel she gracefully rose, taking the hand of the sweetest of models Gizele Oliveira, and continued her walk smiling and winning the hearts and support of every person in the audience.

The show has so many elements from supermodels, to international music artists, to extraordinary styling, that you see the whole package and not just the beautiful lingerie.  This year’s collection didn’t disappoint.  I know what’s on my Christmas list – do you?

How To Do Monochrome Makeup for the Holidays

Not every occasion calls for festive makeup, and sometimes you want your outfit to get all the attention, which makes this year’s monochrome beauty the perfect solution.  There is a palette for every complexion and so many shades to choose from, that this might just become your favorite holiday look.  If you prefer a nude palette, are timid with color, or in a hurry, then this look is the perfect solution for you.

Start by choosing a neutral to nude color palette that works with your complexion. Apply shadows, blush, contour and lips, building on the depth of the color by adding more product on top and remembering to always blend well to blur the edges.  You want to product to disappear and to shade rather than to add a lot of color.

A nude palette is equally as beautiful when it is matte or glowing so the choice is yours, and goes from day to night by simply layering more color and deepening the shades.  Adding a bit of highlighter on the top of your cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and eyebrow bones will let the light catch your skin and make you not disappear in dim light.  Bonus: these will become your favorite go-to versatile shades even after the holidays are over.

Festive Accessories for the Ultimate Holiday Hair

Nothing says holiday beauty like adding a bit of bling to your hair for a glamorous finishing touch.  It’s the perfect time to channel your inner princess and get away with it.  Mini tiaras, bejeweled headbands and clips, ribbons, and brooches are all the sparkle you need.  Braids, embellishments, full and natural, and sleek, simple styles are all good options, depending on the occasion and your skill level.

Hair jewelry is more versatile than you think and there is a way to achieve a glam look whether your style tends to be uptown or downtown.  The best looks are unfussy, and neither stiff nor precious.  The hair accessory should feel like a charming and festive afterthought, and not the focal point of your look.

Be inspired but these gorgeous runway and editorial looks to create your won holiday fantasy style.  Create your own hair jewelry by using rhinestone brooches pinned into up-dos, or attach a brooch to a headband.  Weave luxurious ribbons through braids, or faux pearls and beaded strands through your hair and hold in place with pins.

It’s holiday hair taken up a major style notch, with easy, fresh, modern style that adds festive glam to your look.
