Hair Extensions - Achieve Fall's Hottest Long Hair Styles in Seconds

Long hair – really long hair – is having a moment, but then hasn’t it always?  Hair down to there is sexy, rebellious, and non-conforming.  It can be mysterious, exotic, powerful, retro, or youthful.   Whatever the motivation, it is a strong statement and while it might look like a low maintenance look, for many it is anything but.

For those blessed with straight hair that doesn't curl or frizz and simply grows straight, it might be the easiest style to maintain, being perfect for all sorts of braids, ponytails, and “undone” hair, but these are often the same women whose hair is fine and might not be strong enough to grow very long.  Curly-haired beauties who love full waves and sleek, dramatic styles have to spend a bit more time to achieve long-haired looks, but having the option to go curly or straight is a bonus and for many women, totally worth the effort.

Actually growing your hair this long is a major investment in time and maintenance, and requires a long-term commitment, so for those of us who are more spontaneous and love variety in our beauty routine and whose every outfit requires different makeup and hair to create the look we want, growing our hair long simply is a non-starter.

Hair extensions to the rescue! Choosing the right extensions is critical to avoid damaging your own hair, and for creating quick and easy looks that don’t tie you to a salon, or take up valuable time in the morning.  I use Hidden Crown hair Extensions that are on an invisible filament and can be put on in less than a minute - and removed in one second – which comes in both 18” lengths and 22” lengths which are perfect for super long styles, is made of 100% real remy human hair.  I can curl it or style it exactly how I want to achieve the long, dramatic look. I can transform my look in minutes, and do it again the next day with a completely different style.

Long hair is here to stay and a key fashion trend this coming season.  Be inspired and create your own statement looks this season being as fashion-fickle as you want, or for full-on fashion drama, without the trouble of growing out your hair.

Metallic Beauty Trend for Fall - Shine On!

Fall runways were lit up with metallic fabrics, embellishments, and accessories.  Shimmering lamé, shiny silks and satins, leathers, jewelry, studs, and rhinestones were a common theme.  You might think the late seventies and early eighties were back with a vengeance.  Disco-era glamour is having a moment, especially for evening, and can be incorporated into your wardrobe and beauty looks for 2017 without harkening back to Studio 54. Think of adding a bit of shimmering depth to your make-up for a fall update that plays with shading to create just the right intensity and glimmer.

Golden Eye:  Keep the blending to a minimum and create a well-defined eye shadow shape in a brassy gold shadow.  Highlight the brow bones and temples to draw the light to your eyes.  Use a liquid eye liner and create full black lashes for eye drama.  Choose a rich red satin-finish lip color and a rosy peach blush.

Purple Rain:  Use deep metallic plum tones blended together along the crease of the eyelid and highlight the inner corner of the eyes with a bright silver shadow and finish with heavy black lashes.  Use a rose-pink lip color with a satin finish and a plum-toned blush.

Eye of the Tiger:  Choose metallic browns and greys to create a swooped cat eye shape, using a highlighter on the brow bone up to the eyebrow.  Outline the entire eye in liquid liner and use a metallic gold shadow on the inner corners of the eyes to create a cat-eye-like effect. Wear a metallic bronze lip color and a warm berry blush.

Bronze Goddess:  For a more ethereal metallic eye, choose a lighter golden shade and blend it all over the lid up to the brow bone.  Skip the eyeliner and use a mascara that separates and defines rather than volumizes the lashes.  Choose a deep berry metallic finish lip color, and a peach-copper blush.

                                                  Shine on!  XOXO  Shelley

Style Update: Go Full Bloom in Fall’s Ultra-feminine Floral Midi-dresses

The Fall 2017 collections were filled with midi-dresses with vivid floral prints, some small and delicate, and others bold and vibrant.  Falling below the knee, these dresses are easy to wear, going from work, to weekend brunch, to dinner dates with such versatility it just might become your favorite go-to piece of the season just by switching up the accessories and footwear.  Try knee high boots with or without a heel, classic loafers, mules or sneakers, or a strappy heel, depending on the occasion.  Wear with cross body handbags, slouchy boyfriend sweaters, hero jacket in vegan leather, velvet, or silk, or a simple jean jacket.  Treat the dress as a layering piece and wear with tights, bare legs, or even leggings.

These gorgeous botanicals are anything but your grandma’s wallpaper prints. Look for floral patterns with a darker base color, in fabric that moves and isn’t stiff. Here are some of my favorites that will transition perfectly from early until next spring.

Triple Threat - Cara Delevingne's Breakout Year

Cara Delevingne is one of the busiest celebrities on the planet, with a trifecta of major releases this summer and fall, putting her front and center.  Rarely does a model make such a smooth transition from the fashion world to arts and entertainment.  Definitely not a one-trick-pony, it appears that modeling with all it’s particular challenges was merely a warm up for much bigger things, as Cara leapt from campaigns and covers, to red carpets and movie screens.

As a model, Cara has stood out with her cool nonchalance, her androgyny, and her ability to still look like herself and her brand, while being transformed into editorial and runway characters created by editors, stylists, and fashion designers.  It wasn’t just her extraordinary eyebrows (while that certainly didn’t hurt) that catapulted her, but her own persona and unique personality that made everyone want to work with her – and, yes, have eyebrows like hers.  She is fearless in front of the camera, preferring to be herself, rather than conforming to a classic beauty ideal.

Animated and possessing a strong sense of self, Cara is a natural actress, appearing in this summer’s sci-fi feature “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”, "Suicide Squad", and in the upcoming film “Tulip Fever”.  While winning roles in movies is already a huge accomplishment, not to mention requiring a massive commitment and focus, Cara has somehow managed to drop a new music video to accompany her song “I Feel Everything”, the soundtrack to “Valerian” produced by Pharrell Williams.  But triple-threat Cara has one more release up her sleeve, this time as an author, anticipating her debut fictional novel in October 2017, entitled “Mirror, Mirror”, about identity, friendship, and how appearances can deceive.  Does she ever sleep??

It goes without saying that on one should never underestimate Cara and her ability to forge her own path, to set the trends rather than follow them, and to be in every sense, a renaissance women in her own right.  And admit it, you have to love her cropped platinum haircut – who else but Cara could pull off such a bold look without any hesitation?  We could all use a bit of that sort of self-defining spirit.
