Halo Couture vs Hidden Crown halo shaped hair extensions comparison. Which is better - the differences HERE!

I just attended the International Beauty Show (IBS) in New York City. This is where stylists and industry wholesalers go to learn about the hottest, newest and best selling products in the beauty biz! Trust me this is the place you see it all!

Attendees at the IBS show
I met a lot of women with questions about the halo designed hair extension and so I thought I would write about the differences of these ingenious products!

There are a couple companies in the US that sell this type of extension and were displaying their goods at the IBS Show - namely HaloCouture and Hidden Crown.

Both companies sell 100% human REMY hair, not synthetic. REMY HAIR is considered premium in quality because the hair cuticles are kept in tact unlike other type of extensions and created in such a way that they look completely natural!

Both HaloCouture and Hidden Crowns' halo shaped hair extensions are similar in width and both are lace backed layered wefts. One of the biggest differences outside of retail pricing (See below $$), is in the way each is fitted/attached and the amount of hair on each halo which is measured by weight (grams).

HaloCouture Closure

Here is a photo of the way HaloCouture halo's are fitted - they use a bra like strap attached to a wire. The issue with this is that it can be bulky and irritate the scalp and if you have a small head like I do it can bunch up.
Hidden Crown fastener

The Hidden Crown's design is much simpler - a single micro clip and knot.

RETAIL PRICING:
  • HaloCouture 16 inch Original Halo, 100 grams - $350 (20 inch - $460)
  • HaloCouture 16 inch Layered Halo 145 grams - $480 (20 inch - $580)
  • Hidden Crown 16 inch Halo 140 grams - $249 (20 inch - $269)

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The retail pricing for HaloCouture's original halo is over $100 more than Hidden Crown AND its' 40% LESS hair than Hidden Crown. The pricing for HaloCouture's layered halo which is just 5 grams more hair, is nearly double ($560)!

The HaloCouture layered Halo is hair that is layered within the halo design. For the $230 price difference, I would suggest taking your Hidden Crown Extension to your stylist to customize to fit your hairstyle perfectly if you want layered hair instead of thick ends. Rumor has it that Hidden Crown will be launching it's own Hidden Crown LAYERS later next month.

Hidden Crown has thick ends. This is called "double drawn" hair in the industry.

DIY Ombre' Hair Extensions

You would have to be living under a rock not to notice all the A-lister celebrities who are sporting ombre locks this season. No easy dye job, ombre hair is tricky to get right. Even harder - dying your extensions, but you can get the look just by using some tinted hair powder on extensions you already have ( I love Bumble and bumble), especially if your ends have lightened a bit from the summer sun.

This will also help save your extensions from a wash since it doubles as a dry shampoo!

Of course there is a brand that did it for you, Halo Crown - the easiest way to wear extensions - on a wire with no clips to hide, and no damage to your own hair! For one night or every day. Perfect for any brown haired girl! You can order yours here: http://halocrown.com

How to look like a Victoria Secret Fashion Show Model - 2013 video peek

Makeup by Margarita Potts

Every woman has a little secret ... above is a photo from my own inner angel transformation last month.

In just a few weeks, on Dec 10, the  2013 Victoria Secret Fashion Show that just taped a few days ago will air on CBS. I always look forward to watching because it motivates me to stand taller, wear heels, eat better and try harder with my own beauty regime.

Here's a video of the Victoria Secret Fashion Show:

Don't be too hard on yourself ... these girls have advantages beyond good genes to looking this wonderful: stylists, professional makeup artists,  extra hair, and perfect lighting! There's a reason their call time is 9am for an 8pm show! It takes alot of effort to look that good!

Here's a few of their tricks:

HAIR
What you might not realize is that most of the Victoria Secret models are wearing hair extensions. Models' hair is typically damaged from the constant products and styling required for multiple photo shoots and appearances. Watch this video to see how they are matching up extensions for one of the models, at minute 7:08 to 7:30. Most of us don't have stylist to help us every day so read on to learn about a new design hair extension that anyone can put on themselves in less than 30 seconds.

The best human hair in extensions to buy is REMY hair, it is 100% real and cuticle correct meaning the cuticles all lay in the same direction which makes it soft, silky and less apt to tangle. Because it's REAL hair, you can color it for a perfect match to your own, but a word of advice - because this hair is already processed you do not want to lighten, only deposit color. Lowlights, toner or all over color. Unless you can find a perfect match I suggest taking it to your stylist to color for you. Here's a photo from theFashionspot.com's backstage photos pass just to give you an idea of how many extensions are used in the show:

Real hair is also measured by weight. For my own hair which is long, somewhat fine but lots of it, I find that 120 grams is the right amount to add fullness and body.

Clip in extensions are great, but they can damage your own hair sometimes and the tracks can be hard to hide so people might notice.

My favorite hair extension design is called Hidden Crown halo style hair extensions and it is literally a whole set of extensions on a transparent wire which requires no glue, no clips and gives no damage to your own hair. It literally takes less than a minute to put on and you just pull your own hair over top to hold it in. You can shake your head up and down - side to side, and it doesn't come off!

Here I am getting glammed up with my Hidden Crown Hair extensions prior to my own Victoria Secret-esque shoot. Order yours at www.hiddencrown.com

BRONZED SKIN
Victoria Secret runway girls and women in athletic competitions always get a tan on before competing. A tan will automatically make you look a bit thinner

Of course nothing can replace regular workouts at the gym and a healthy diet, but you can fake more muscle tone by applying tanner or bronzer strategically in areas that you want to define.

The trick is doing it in 2 steps. First an all over color and then a second layer or contour bronzer. For the second step you will want to add deeper color to the sides of your stomach - this is to make the love handles disappear. (Use this same concept for slimmer thighs) Then flex your muscles and make a line down the center of your abs and finish with horizontal lines to define your muscle tone.

My favorite self tanners are St Tropez and Phenomenal by Vita Liberata (the world's first 2-3 week tan!), for bronzer use Lorac's Tantalizer - especially wonderful to add some shine down the front of your shins.

PERFECT LIGHT
We don't always have control over this, but one thing that makeup artists always make sure to do is add highlights to our face with light reflecting products, often using 2 different colors of foundation to contour the face.

FULLER LIPS

To perfect a  fuller pouty lip, draw a line straight across your cupid's bow in a pinky tone just a tad darker than your own lip color before adding your favorite lipstick - finish with a dab of gloss in the center. I have no idea why, but this trick gives an optical illusion of bigger more kissable lips!

DE-BLOAT
Strictly limit sodium. and drink lots of water to flush out toxins.
Eating can be as simple as fruits and vegetables as long as you stay clear from gassy veggies like broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower. And avoid dairy and starches. Read a few more in depth tips on how to de-bloat {HERE}

SKIP the GYM
One thing every one of these Victoria Secrets girls' will tell you is that they work out every. single. day. But models don't hit it hard core, many do Pilates, yoga and jogging. They tone, and watch what they eat so their weight doesn't fluctuate.

If you're headed to the beach in your bikini and want your thighs to look their thinnest, skip the heavy weights the day before. Hitting the iron too hard can make lactic acid build up and make your muscles temporarily swell.

Halo Hair Extensions - Comparison REVIEW: Halo UK, Halo Crown, Halo Couture

Halo Couture vs Halo Crown vs Halo Hair Extensions (UK)

In a world of sinners, the Gods of locks, have given us the answer to all of our hairy prayers ...halo shaped hair. The easiest extension ever to use, taking less than a minute to put on without any clips to hide, messy glue or damage to your own hair. To see how easy it is check out my post about Kelly Ripa's fake hair on a wire {Here}

But the question remains - which halo design is most awe inspiring of all? To find out I ordered all three and here's what I found.

THE PRICE
Halo Couture is by far the most expensive $375-600 for their 16 inch extensions (100 grams of hair) which are sold primarily in salons. Halo Crown, in comparison is only $225 and 40% more hair (140 grams). Halo from the UK offers a deluxe 16 inch Halo of 140 grams for $259.99, but it is only 9-10 inches in width offering only hair in back USD, plus it ships from England.

Difference in width

THE HAIR
All three have equally great hair, similar texture, silky and luxurious, but only Halo Couture and Halo Crown are laced backed. The Halo from the UK reportedly can be itchy and bulky with a single hard seam at the top holding all the hair together.

Let's face it, the reason we are looking for an extension is because we want extra hair, so it makes sense to buy the halo that has the most hair. HaloCrown's version wins! weighing in at 140 grams, which is almost 40 % more hair than either Halo Couture or the regular (non-deluxe) UK Halo.

Halo Crown width of hair is 12.5 to 13 inches of hair that goes ear to ear. HaloCouture is 11.5 to 12 inches wide. The Halo Hair Extension from the UK is only 9-10 inches across. I prefer the wider halo design because is gives me volume on the sides too like a whole set of extensions, not just in the back of my head.

HALO CROWN - PUTTING IT ON
Here are some before and after shots of me wearing the 16 inch Halo Crown, that I had cut to 14 inch length and styled - the uncut 16 inch Halo Crown hits at my bra strap and I didn't want it quite that long.

As the old beauty queen within me would say,
"Love your hair, hope you win!"

Kelly Ripa's halo hair extensions - Exclusive insider tip on where to get it!

Sponsored Post

Gotta love Kelly Ripa for "keeping it real!" and revealing one of the best kept secret weapons of Real Housewives, Beauty Queens, models and celebrities to her audience live on her show ... extra hair.

The down to earth star who is always able to laugh at herself, took off a significant chunk of her mane for all to see even though her producer wasn't so sure, worried she would scare her audience and actually said so on the air. Unlike the bad weaves and glue-in weft mishaps that we have seen on stars before, the halo shaped hair extensions are virtually undetectable and undeniably real looking. And Ms Ripa proved it. Watch it here:

Kelly's "wigston" as she named it, was customized for her by her stylist for hundreds of dollars, but don't worry there's a less expensive option available for the every day girl wanting some extra-ordinary hair from a company online that sells the Crown Extension online {HERE} at HiddenCrownHair.com

The Hidden Crown hair is 100% human hair with a silky texture and easy to wear. Simple to adjust, nothing to glue or clip in; just a small invisible transparent thread in front to hide that is easily covered with your own hair. The weight of your natural hair once pulled over keeps in place because I actually flipped my head up and down and side to side and it never fell off! GENIUS!

If any of you would like to buy them here is the link to the Hidden CROWN ! The color options are huge and although you may think it's hard to match your color you'd be surprised how easy it is to do.

Here's to having it all Goldilocks!

Watch below to see me put this extension on in 30 seconds live for TV.
